What is Vaudeville?

“Vaudeville was a theatrical genre of variety entertainment popular in the United States and Canada from the early 1880s until the early 1930s. Each performance was made up of a series of separate, unrelated acts grouped together on a common bill. Types of acts included popular and classical musicians, singers, dancerscomedianstrained animalsmagicians, female and male impersonators,acrobatsillustrated songsjugglers, one-act plays or scenes from plays, athletes, lecturing celebritiesminstrels, and movies. Gate House is hosting its first ever Evening of Vaudeville November 23rd starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 per person at the door or 20.00 per family.

Not all acts will be dressed in costume for the era (1890’s- 1930’s) however costumes are welcome by participants and patrons alike.

Let the heckling begin!
