Christmas Light-Up and Community Christmas Concert 2013 Edition

It’s a new Christmas Season and Gate House Community Association is the new coordinator for Pt McNeill’s Christmas Light-Up.

The last couple of years we’ve been involved in the Light-Up by hosting a free classic cartoon. This year we’re taking the celebration in a different direction and – partnering with Wild Heart Music, our After School Drama Program and others – we are hosting a Community Christmas Concert.

Meet at the tree 6:45 for carols and wait for Santa to arrive.  After the tree is lit Santa will lead us to Gate House Theatre where he’ll take the seat of honour as Wild Heart Music kicks off our concert at approximately 7:00 pm.

Around 7:55 Santa will lead us to the front door where he’ll give every child a treat.

Come and bring your Christmas Cheer!

Vaudeville to Help Typhoon Haiyan Victims

An Evening of Vaudeville is now a registered fund raiser for Typhoon Haiyan 2013 Red Cross Response.

A donation box is ready for our patrons. Information and the registration with the Canadian Red Cross is posted.

This reminds me of the shows Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and many others used to do for the troops overseas during the war. A variety show to boost morale and make a difference.  Vaudeville – by it’s very nature – is the mother of the variety show genre – from the 1890’s all the way to the wacky Muppet Show of the 1970’s and ’80’s.

Saturday November 23rd, 2013 in Port McNeill at Gate House Theatre you will be entertained by a variety of acts and you will make a difference for the disaster survivors in the Philippians.

Doors open at 6:30. Show starts at 7:00 pm. Tickets $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family

What is Vaudeville?

“Vaudeville was a theatrical genre of variety entertainment popular in the United States and Canada from the early 1880s until the early 1930s. Each performance was made up of a series of separate, unrelated acts grouped together on a common bill. Types of acts included popular and classical musicians, singers, dancerscomedianstrained animalsmagicians, female and male impersonators, acrobatsillustrated songsjugglers, one-act plays or scenes from plays, athletes, lecturing celebritiesminstrels, and movies. A vaudeville performer is often referred to as a vaudevillian.” Wikipedia

Gate House is hosting its first ever Evening of Vaudeville November 23rd starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 per person at the door or 20.00 per family.

Not all acts will be dressed in costume for the era (1890’s- 1930’s) however costumes are welcome by participants and patrons alike.

Let the heckling begin!

Classic Movie Tuesday returns for Christmas Classics starting Nov 26th

It’s been a while since we’ve done Classic Tuesdays. People stopped coming and our volunteers were waning. But our amazing part time manager, Olivia J is re-instituting Classic Movies for Christmas.

Here’s your chance on voting for which movies you will come to see – not want to come to see – nudge, nudge, wink, wink – but WILL come to see!

Creating a New Reality on the North Island

Our mission statement:

Gathering Together; Celebrating the Arts

So ecstatic to see this happening in our space.

We are blessed to have such an amazing space (Thank you General Properties and Liza Furney !)

Without exception, since we’ve been in existence (July 1, 2011) , every group, that has performed in our theatre, expressed awe (with a hint of jealousy) of our space. And they all want to come back.

We are on a journey to influence our community with exposure, education, and encouragement to participate in The Arts. All of them!

Although we haven’t gained any substantial grants yet – to help us meet our operating costs – we will not give up.

For every event, performance, free class or Community Event we host gets us closer to qualifying for most of the big grants.

Thanks to all who support, volunteer, and participate in Gate House Community Association .

You are making a difference in the Culture of your Community.
